Over the next few days, we are honored to welcome thousands of guests and visitors to Mackinac Island as they choose to celebrate Independence Day with us. With that, we invite you to experience our newly reimagined Parlor at Grand Hotel. Since 1887, the Parlor has been the heart and soul of Grand Hotel, a place where guests gather to share stories, enjoy live music, and prepare for unforgettable adventures on Mackinac Island. In 1976, Grand Hotel partnered with Dorothy Draper & Company and Carleton Varney to transform the space with signature touches like the red geranium, Grand Hotel green, and vibrant furnishings spanning the decades. Now, the Parlor has been refreshed once again. The iconic dark green has been replaced with a new coral hue, Huron Sunrise, evoking the brilliant skies over the Straits of Mackinac. A new mural graces the Afternoon Tea area, complementing the Victorian scenes on the east and west walls. The carpet has also been completely updated throughout the entire Parlor level, including Peacock Alley, the Art Gallery, guest room hallway, and the Main Dining Room. Look closely and you might spot a single Grand Hotel “G” hidden in the new pattern of vines and red-and-green geraniums. Step back in time on Grand Hotel’s iconic Front Porch ✨ Originally, the Front Porch was roughly 426 ft long; today, it stretches 660 ft and holds the title of the World’s Longest Front Porch. Though some might not recognize the long railing that once lined the Front Porch, it was replaced in the 1930’s by the red geraniums we know and love today.
