IYKYK - if you’ve ever been to Mackinac Island you know it’s gotta be one of the best places on earth to get fudge! A few weeks ago, Jeannie Grates posted she was heading to this iconic place in the UP - the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I casually asked her to get me some fudge, and she graciously did so. 𝙾𝚙𝚎, 𝚘𝚏𝚏𝚒𝚌𝚒𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚢 𝚏𝚞𝚍𝚐𝚒𝚎𝚜 ♡ Took a ferry to Mackinac Island, rented some bikes, & 16 miles later we had explored Mission Point, Arch Rock, Fort Mackinac, Sugar Loaf Rock, Skull Cave, the Grand Hotel, British Landing, and everything in between. Then, we obviously had to enjoy some Mackinac Island fudge, ice cream, and taffy (yes, all 3). Ad•The second stop on our vikingcruises Great Lakes cruise was the stunning Mackinac Island, a picture perfect Michigan summer resort. Early in the morning we passed under the almost five mile long Mackinac suspension bridge as the sun rose behind it. We had once again picked the Viking included excursion which was a horse drawn carriage ride, starting with a tour around the town before a ride through the National park woodland up to Arch Rock. We finished the horse drawn ride at the fort overlooking the town giving us the chance to take a look round the fort before walking back down to the town. Not ready to leave this gorgeous little island yet, we decided to hire a tandem bike and cycle the 8 mile route round the perimeter of the island. After a slightly wobbly start we soon got the hang of it and enjoyed a couple of hours cycling round this car free island, stopping to take in some of the sights around the way. Back in town we couldn’t leave without sampling (and maybe buying a slab or two 😁) of the delicious fudge that the island is renown for. Although we had had our fair share of exercise the amount of fudge consumed warranted a gentle walk up the hill to take a closer look at the stunning Grand Hotel, setting for the 1980 hit movie ‘Somewhere in Time’ starring Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. Though we didn’t want to leave it was time to catch the tender back to the ship where all of the guests on Polaris were invited out to the bow of the ship to wave off Octantis as she set sail ahead of us to her next destination.
